04/04/2025 - Oh Yeah

Today's Rating: 9/10
Song of the Day: All Eyes on Me - Bo Burnham
Current Book: Why Time Flies - Alan Burdick
You may think today's rating would be a typo. "Austin, rating a day above 7, preposterous!", but it would be hard for me to imagine a much better day than yesterday (and I highly doubt I'll ever give a day a 10/10 unless I won the lottery or something).
The day started out normal, but I was in an exceedingly good mood at work. It was my last workday for 15 days, and I was taking off at 2. If my memory is right, this is the longest amount of time I've gone without working since I graduated college in 2020. Taking off for an extended period of time typically yields one of two results at my job:
- A last minute rush to get everything done before leaving (which has happened to me twice before) OR
- A very relaxed last day since all assignments have been reassigned
In my case, it was the latter. I did next to no work the entire day (a couple of small, simple tasks). I went for my walk early and walked 3.27 miles in 55 minutes. The rest of the work day was really just waiting out the clock.

Finally, 2 PM came, and I submitted my timesheet for the next two weeks. I, somewhat dramatically, closed out every program on my work laptop (unnecessary), shut down my computer, closed the lid, and shoved it into the corner.

I hung out with Maddie for a bit and then headed to the courts for my first match of the tennis tournament at 3. I was playing a local high schooler that I had not hit with before. I love tournament weekends; they are usually a lot of fun. I won my first match 6-0 6-1 against the high schooler in extremely windy conditions.

Next up was the match I was dreading. I was playing doubles with Zach against another high schooler and a literal man-baby. I am struggling to find the words to express my hatred for the man-baby. Almost everyone out there hates this guy, but few with the fervor that I have.

He's just kind of a douche in general but is extremely douchey when it comes to tennis. Let me list off a few (please keep in mind this man is 50+ years old):
- Cheats on line calls fairly consistently
- Jumps around before his opponents starts serving
- Will ask the score only when he's winning on critical points
- Yells "come on"s after opponents make errors
- Throws his racquet
- In general, takes everything way too seriously

I'm sure there is more than that, but that is what I'm remembering right now. Anyhow, enough about the man baby. Zach and I ended up winning that doubles match 3-6 6-1 10-8 in an extremely satisfying victory. I also got to make fun of man-baby and his "wittle tantwums".
After doubles, I had my second singles match of the day against an older man that I had seen hit a few times before. I refer to him as "the surgeon". He has a very tactical game with a ton of precision/placement. I ended up winning the 6-2 6-1 and felt that I was playing pretty well.
I headed home and had some dinner (kimbap from TJs) and watched some White Lotus before heading to bed. I have follow-up singles/doubles matches Saturday, so wish me luck.
Thanks for reading and see you tomorrow!
